Booth Monitors
Custom coaxial booth monitors for @darkroomdjs. Point source coherence, time-delayed to the main system, and a faceted cabinet finished in signature Darkroom orange.
The Upgrade
After building the main system for The Darkroom, we came back for the DJ booth. A pair of custom booth monitors, loaded with the Beyma 6CX200Fe coaxial driver, to give the people behind the decks the same quality of monitoring the room already had out front.
A proper quality-of-life upgrade for anyone mixing in there – and always surprising how much of a difference it makes.
Point Source Coherence
The 6CX200Fe is a coaxial driver – highs and mids radiating from a single point – so the monitor images as one coherent source rather than two separate drivers. That coherence is exactly what you want up close in a booth.
We then time-delayed the monitors against the main system, so what the DJ hears lines up with what the room hears. It sounds like a small thing, but it completely changes how it feels to mix in the space.
No Square Angles
We went funky with the cabinet shape on this one – no square angles anywhere. Every panel is hand-cut Baltic birch, faceted so the monitor reads as a solid, sculpted object rather than a box on a stand.
Finished in the signature Darkroom orange, with colours and accents chosen to match the rest of the room. Once again, Ben Kemp delivered the goods on the build.
