MB-258
Draiimolen Edition
Building the ultimate afters speaker. Dual 5x8" SB Acoustics racetrack design, 115dB max SPL. Built for travel.
The Concept
The MB-258 was born from a specific need: a high-output speaker that could travel on a flight as carry-on luggage. We were building a prototype in the run-up to Draiimolen, and needed something powerful enough for pres and afters, but compact enough to fit in overhead storage.
The challenge was clear – maximum output in a minimum footprint, without compromising on sound quality or battery life.

Design & Construction
We chose dual 5x8" SB Acoustics racetrack drivers for the low end. The racetrack shape gives us more cone area than a traditional round driver in the same footprint, allowing for deeper bass and higher output.
The enclosure is hand-built from 12mm Baltic birch plywood, carefully tuned for the drivers. Every dimension was optimized for both acoustic performance and airline carry-on restrictions.
The entire system runs on a custom lithium-ion battery pack feeding a BT board. The result is up to 115dB peak SPL – more than enough to fill a room or outdoor space, while still fitting in a backpack.
The Result
The MB-258 prototype performed exactly as intended at Draiimolen. It delivered the output we needed for pres and afters, and it traveled with us without any issues.
This project proved that with the right driver selection and careful enclosure design, you can achieve remarkable output from a compact package. The racetrack drivers were the key – they gave us the performance we needed in a form factor that could actually travel.
